Schiff's reagent (colorless) restores pink/magenta color with aldehydes. Very sensitive test.
How It Works

Three Unknown Compounds
Tubes A, B, C contain aldehyde, ketone, and alcohol.

Add Schiff's Reagent
Colorless Schiff's reagent (decolorized fuchsin) turns pink with aldehydes.
3
Observe Color
Pink/magenta = Aldehyde. No color = Ketone or Alcohol.
