Activity 9.2 — Image Formation by Concave Mirror

NCERT Activity 9.2: Explore how a concave mirror forms images at different object positions — beyond C, at C, between C and F, and at F.

How To Perform

1

Set Up the Mirror

Identify the Pole (P), Focus (F), and Center of Curvature (C) of a concave mirror.

2

Object Beyond C

Place the object beyond C and draw ray diagrams to find the image.

3

Object at C

Move the object to C and observe a real, inverted, same-size image.

4

Object Between C and F

Place the object between C and F to get a magnified real image.

5

Object at F

Place the object at the focus and see rays become parallel — image at infinity.

6

Classify

Identify where to place an object for a real, inverted, same-sized image.
