Activity 5.7 — Transpiration in Plants
NCERT Activity 5.7: Cover a potted plant with a polythene bag — water droplets appear inside from transpiration. Compare with a leafless plant (control).
How To Perform
1
Setup: Plant With Leaves
Cover a leafy plant with a clear polythene bag.
2
Setup: Plant Without Leaves
Remove leaves, then cover with a bag (control).
3
Observe: With Leaves
Water droplets appear — transpiration is occurring!
4
Observe: Without Leaves
No droplets — transpiration needs leaves (stomata).
⚠️ Safety Notes
- •Handle potted plants gently — do not damage the roots.
- •Tie the polythene bag loosely enough not to damage the stem.
- •Ensure the plant is well-watered before the experiment.
